Do yourself a favour and head on over to the capital city of South Australia. What was once a sleepy little town has since evolved over the years to become a bustling hub of world-class festivals, culture, fine dining and more. Better yet, Adelaide is a gateway to the ever-popular Adelaide Hills, with its rich bounty of vineyards and wineries. If you’d prefer to keep things central, however, you can stroll around the belt of parkland that encircles the CBD on four sides. This city-locked slice of nature offers plenty of pleasant strolling options, and hugs the River Torrens along the northern boundary.

Adelaide is an exciting tourist destination all year round. Known as the ‘City of Parks’, the ‘Festival City’ and the ‘City of Churches’, there is always something going on no matter when you visit.
The city of Adelaide is one to marvel at and explore. A firm favourite amongst many are the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. With incredible architecture and over 50 hectares of native and foreign plants, the gardens are best enjoyed on a sunny day with a picnic in hand.
Maybe drive to the Adelaide Oval and witness one of the most famous sporting stadiums in the world. Even if there’s no sport on that day, you can still book a tour to see the ins and outs of what makes this oval just so special.
Finally, there’s the Art Gallery of South Australia. Home to 40,000 works of art, it’s a beautiful exploration of history and culture – and one well suited to an overcast afternoon.
With beaches like Glenelg and Henley on the outskirts of the city boundaries, it’s no wonder that so many people flock to Adelaide during the summer months. Glenelg is just nine kilometres away from the CBD, and with plenty of cafes and restaurants lining the shore, it’s a great spot to spend the afternoon and a summer evening. Henley is another popular spot, with many workers heading here for a lunchtime dip and a much-needed break from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you’ve spent the morning exploring the city streets, the beach must just be the best way to end the day.
Once you’ve fulfilled your city dreams, why not head on a road trip to the countryside? The South Australian country is simply spectacular, and there are so many worthwhile hikes you could easily dedicate a few days of your trip to seeing the sights away from the city lights.
Drive to Belair National Park, South Australia’s oldest national park, to witness the beautiful natural history here. It’s just a 25-minute drive from Adelaide city centre, so you’ll be immersed in spectacular nature before you know it. There are plenty of walking tracks, like Valley Loop Hike, Microcarpa Hike, and the Waterfall Hike. Bring your camera and plenty of snacks, as while you’ll likely not want to leave for a while, you’ll want some photo memories to take home with you.
There is also the Morialta Conservation Park, which is a locally-loved recreational escape. You'll be in for a treat with gorges, woodlands, and cascading waterfalls once you drive over here. It’s just a 22-minute drive from the city to the outskirts of the park, so you can plan a half-day trip if your schedule is super jam-packed. The First Falls walk is a firm favourite of the park and makes for a beautiful sight just after rainfall. There’s also the Morialta rock climbing zone for anyone looking for a bit of an adrenaline rush – it’s the most popular area in South Australia for natural climbing, so well worth a visit if you’re interested.
Adelaide City is a phenomenal place. With plenty of things to do, see, and discover every day, you’ll have a blast no matter when you visit.
